Who watched last night's Cyber Rodeo? I was hoping Elon would show off something new, but instead it was mostly an hour of bragging about how awesome the new Austin Gigafactory is -- and fair enough, it's awesome!
They did show off an updated version of the Cybertruck - the same one we've seen drone shots of with a windshield wiper and side mirrors, but really the newsiest part of the event was Elon's updates on production timelines.
He said 2023 would be the year for production of the Cybertruck, Roadster, Semi, and
possibly even Optimus -- which I'd never heard as the name for the Tesla Bot but maybe I missed something?
The exact quote was, “We have a shot of being in production for version one of Optimus hopefully next year.”
Considering how often production of future Tesla products have been delayed, the fact that he said Optimus production was a maybe for 2023 doesn't fill me with confidence, but I honestly wasn't expecting to see a working prototype for years, let alone production in foreseeable future.
But the wildest part was how confident Elon was in the impact Optimus will have, saying it would usher in an "age of abundance" and that the bots would have a bigger impact on the world than any other product Tesla had made.
Can't wait!
